A good number of home watch providers are most often a “division” of parent company or a parent company with various “divisions.” In turn, landscapers, general contractors, painters or real estate agents to name a few, often promote their respective skill-sets in relation to the actual home watch business. To be certain and by most accounts, these groups seemingly make it work. Conversely, one major issue I’ve seen from afar time and time again is how a home watch base is often looked at as a resource pool for the larger service. In turn, once this service is required, the owner is expected to use this company exclusively.

Nauset Management takes a different approach to the service aspect.

It didn’t take long to realize that approximately 90% of our customer base had at least one and in most cases two particular preferred vendors. While these preferred trades may be plumbers, electricians, housekeeping or landscape maintenance, it became readily apparent that many homeowners were in fact self-sufficient. Over time, and in conjunction with Nauset Management’s network of resources, we found ourselves with an extensive network of trades some three or four deep per discipline.

As the business grew, it also became apparent that the large majority of service requests were exactly that; service calls. Rather than mark up $ 100.00 service calls, issue 1099 forms and add redundant layers of insurance, an unconventional yet informed decision was made to forgo the mark up and the tradeoff has cemented our service model.

First and foremost, by eliminating the mark up, customers are assured that there is no vested interest beyond resolution and satisfaction in both cost and quality as there is no single preferred vendor. Customers also enjoy multiple bids. It wasn’t long before sub-contractors began referring customers to Nauset Management. This in and of itself was a satisfactory exchange yet more important, this network and exchange solidified our relationships and now allows us to call upon and realize immediate response from a wealth of resources. In conjunction with our restricted service area and cap on customer volume, calling on multiple plumbers and plow contractors for instance, greatly reduces response times while accelerating the resolution process.
